量子力学を学ぶのには最高の本

　量子力学の構造が明快にすっきりと描き出されている名著。

　これだけ豊富な内容を扱っておきながら、各々のトピックの説明が雑になることはなく、本当に読みやすい。
読者がつまづくであろうポイントにはたいていの場合但し書きがあるし、論理のつながりがはっきりしているから、今何をしているのか、何をしたいのか、を見失うことなくよめる。
　同時にとても教育的である。同じことを示すのに、彼はよく「教育的である」として、異なる導出をしたりする。
また、演習問題も豊富で、かつ多くの示唆的な問題を含んでいる。ただ本文を読むだけでもたくさんのことに気づかされるのだが、この本の演習問題は、読者を更なる理解の深みに導いてくれることだと思う。

　全編通してブラケット表記でことが進む。（ブラケット表記のある程度の数学的な話は、1章にまとめてある。これを読むには多少の線形代数の知識で事足りる。）
一般的に量子力学を学ぶと、多くの偏微分と特殊関数の嵐に見舞われ、ともすれば本質を見失いかけない。しかし、ブラケットと彼の巧みな説明のおかげで、計算に埋もれることはないだろう。（ただし、他の本を用いて、一度はそういった泥臭い計算をすることをお勧めする）

　扱うトピックスが大変豊富であるのも特徴だ。モノポールからAB効果、経路積分にメーザー、．．．枚挙に暇がない。また、随所に郡論の話を、あえて郡論の言葉をあまり使わないで説明してあるのも、初学者にはうれしい。

　この本を読み終わった頃には、きっと、量子力学にかかった霧が晴れ、はっきりとした姿が見えるようになると思います。

シンボリックに表現した量子力学のテキスト

量子力学を演算子形式でシンボリックに表現している教科書のひとつ。
用いる基底ベクトルによって表現が変わるので、
展開してゆく理論構成に一般性はあるが、
典型的な一次元井戸・障壁などの問題に触れる機会はないので
併せて波動形式の量子力学（メシアの本など）も学ぶことをお勧めする。
摂動理論と角運動量理論の解説が特に詳しい。
個人的には、はじめのシュテルン・ゲルラッハの実験が、
量子力学の一側面をわかりやすく説明していて、
初めて量子論を学ぶ人には良い刺激になると思う。
レベルは学部生で十分読みこなせるし、演習問題の解答編が
日本語で出版されている。

著者の桜井純は、アメリカの高校へ渡り、素粒子論の理論物理学者として非アーベルゲージ場をベクトル模型に応用するなど統一理論の先駆けなど、優れた業績を上げた人だ。さらに講演上手でいろいろな研究機関でも引っぱりだこだったそうで、本書の完成前に、CERN滞在中に亡くなられた。
本書は、共同研究者達が、残された原稿を元に完成したもので、第２版は著者の弟が日本語訳（吉岡書店刊）に加えた内容を英訳したものである。内容は、最新の実験結果、観測問題や経路積分法など、当時の入門書では詳しく扱われていない話題を積極的に取り上げている。初めて量子力学を勉強する人には手強いが、一通り学習した人が再勉強するのには適している。演習問題の解答は日本語訳（吉岡書店刊）があるので、それを参考にすると、独学の人には便利だろう。

Nachdem ich in meinem Studium mit vielen Werken über die Quantenmechanik konfrontiert wurde, muss ich J.J. Sakurais "Modern Quantum Mechanics" zugestehen, eindeutig das beste gewesen zu sein. Dies muss ich für den Kunden auf Amazon allerdings mit Einschränkungen versehen:

Wer sich mit diesem Buch anfreunden will, braucht die üblichen profunden Kenntnisse in "Physiker-Englisch", eine solide Vorkenntnis der benötigten Physik und eine gewisse Affinität zur theoretischen Seite der Physik. Optimalerweise sollte man vielleicht schonmal einen Einstieg in die Quantenmechanik gehört/gelesen haben.

"Modern Quantum Mechanics" ist also kein Buch für Einsteiger, sondern für fortgeschrittene Studenten. In dieser Hinsicht hat es mich allerdings deutlich überzeugt. Die Notationen sind praktisch, das thematisierte Feld reicht von einer (kurzen!) Einführung in das Konzept der QM über Approximationstechniken bis hin zu Streuungen und deckte damit den Inhalt meines gesamten Master-Adv.-QM-Kurses ab. Zusätzlich dazu führt das Buch zu jedem Kapitel eine Reihe nützlicher Aufgaben, deren Lösung allerdings leider nur seperat erhält ist.
Zu erwähnen ist, dass dieses Buch nicht direkt von J.J. Sakurai stammt, sondern nach seinem Tode mehr "in seinem Geiste" auf der Basis seiner Notizen veröffentlich wurde.

Obwohl auch immer wieder Bezüge zu praktischen Themen und Esxperimenten eingeflochten werden, ist "Modern Quantum mechanics" vom Stil her klar ein Buch für Theoretiker. Experimentalphysiker werden sich mit den Ansätzen, Beweisführungen etc. etwas schwer tun und greifen wohlmöglich besser zu anderen Werken. Wie schon erwähnt, handelt es sich bei diesem Buch auch nicht um eine Einführung in die QM, wer keine Berührung mit diesem Thema hatte, sollte also auch unbedingt vorher Probelesen, ob er mit dem Inhalt klarkommt.

Insgesamt halte ich "Modern Quantum Mechanics" für eine hervorragende Begleitschrift zu einer fortgeschrittene Vorlesung der Quantenmechanik, wie sie im späteren Abschnitt von Master- bzw. Diplomstudiengang üblich ist. Noch heute steht das Buch bei mir als Nachschlagewerk für "Uni-QM" im Regal. Es bietet einen klaren Einblick in physikalische Methoden, Hintergründe und verwendet dabei auch angemessen viel Zeit auf Herleitungen und Beweisführung.
Wie bei allen "Studienmitteln" ist es allerdings auch hier sinnvoll, vor dem Kauf einmal einen Blick hinein zu werfen.

Everything I have read from this book (up to chapter 6 of 7) is amazing. The author(s) do a phenomenal job presenting the material in a way that:

a) makes excellent chronological sense. Barring minor hiccups, each section flowed seamlessly into the next.
b) has excellent problems that not only stretch your thinking but also lead you to discover quantum mechanics on your own.
c) plentiful examples that perfectly convey the concepts being taught and are relevant to physics outside of the textbook sandbox.
d) has many "extra" sections that are not necessarily critical to your understanding of quantum mechanics, but are rather expositions on how the learned topics are applicable to physical results.

That said, this book is certainly not for the first-time quantum reader. Perhaps not even for the second-time reader. Much of the book is quite formal, so it is crucial to have a firm intuitive grasp on the subject before you build formalism with this book. On that note, this book requires a very close read - this is not something you can "just skim to get the idea." Deriving the formulas together with the book is a must. As suggested by most everyone (including the authors), this is meant to be a first-year physics graduate student text.

Many seem to complain that the first three chapters (written by Sakurai) are significantly better than the others (written by his successors). I do not have this impression at all (at least not yet!). Chapters 4-6 are written in much the same style and beauty as the first three. In fact, if I had not known beforehand that the authors changed halfway I would have never been able to tell.
