As an Eve player, this book holds so much lore not so readily available in the game. As well, the story flows so well despite being told through the perspectives of several characters and at many locations. The author does a masterful job as stringing together large scale events with personal thoughts and conversations without overburdening the reader with information.
Highly recommended for new and veteran Eve players as well as lovers of SCI-Fi

Tony Gonzales
(著)
These are times that will test the bounds of the human spirit. A clone with no name or past awakens to a cruel existence, hunted mercilessly for crimes he may never know; yet he stands close to the pinnacle of power in New Eden. A disgraced ambassador is confronted by a mysterious woman who knows everything about him, and of the sinister plot against his government; his actions will one day unleash the vengeful wrath of an entire civilization. And among the downtrodden masses of a corporation-owned world, a man named Tibus Heth is about to launch a revolution that will change the course of history The confluence of these dark events will lead humanity towards a tragic destiny. The transcendence of man to the dream of immortality has bred a quest for power like none before it; empires spanning across thousands of stars will clash in the depths of space and on the worlds within. Those who stand before the tides of war, willingly or not, must face the fundamental choices that have been with man for tens of thousands of years, unchanged since the memory of Earth was lost. This is EVE, The Empyrean Age. A test of our convictions and the will to survive.

Books set in franchise universes are often bad, more so when the franchise is a computer game. Too often they have a 'writing school' approach to them. Hero is good looking and morale (occasionally with a flaw), hero always gets girl, girl is always stunning. Add to that, this is a first novel by the writer and it should be mediocre. Far from it. I have played Eve Online so I was familiar with the universe CCP created, not sure if that helps but it's good. No romance, no family 'bonding', Hollywood would hate it but I loved it. Lots of intrigue, intelligent character choices, doesn't overload you with technology descriptions. It's a fine first novel and a really good story. Several unresolved issues at the end but there is a follow up, so that's OK! Eve players, ex-players and potential players will like it. I'd be interested to see if a non-Eve person enjoys it as much but 5 stars from me.

EVE the Empyrean age is an incredible experience that both expands the world for fans of the game and introduces new readers to the EVE universe. Its a dark, gritty, and unfathomably deep science fiction epic that will take a bit of dedication to get through on account of its length, but is very much worth it.
The plot is incredibly complex, featuring a dozen different storylines that span the breadth of the EVE-verse and still manage to intersect as the climax draws near. You'll care about every one of them though, because Tony Gonzales can really write his characters and imparts human qualities onto them, from the weary CEO trying to stave off a galactic conflict to the mute boy who's trapped with his worst fears.
More than just characters keep this book going. Gonzales brings the different nations of EVE to life. More than that, he captures the very essence of EVE by not taking sides. All nations are presented in near-equal light, and its up to the reader to choose their side when the dreadnoughts are deployed and the cannon shells start flying.
EVE: The Empyrean age is a sadly unnoticed classic. It defines the EVE universe, and is incredibly memorable. Recommend for science fiction fans willing to set aside a good few hours for this book.
