This is a Japanese Sega Mega Drive model 1. Brilliant. This is the Mega Drive I always wanted since buying a Mega Drive 2 console back in 2008, because of the headphone jack just like the Sega Genesis was, and the ability to play import games as well as utilizing flashcarts such as the EverDrive-MD and Mega EverDrive. The model 1 I got was indeed a very early model 1 Mega Drive with the EXT port on the back from 1988, and best of all no TMSS screen (Produced by or under license from Sega Enterprises Ltd.) so you can also play unlicensed games. The audio on this Mega Drive sounds way better than the later models and Genesis 3, plus it feels quiet when I'm playing Virtua Racing without that buzzy sound from my Mega Drive 2.
Since my original Mega Drive didn't come with any accessories, that's OK. I used my Sega Genesis accessories to power ON this console such as the 120V AC Adapter, genuine AV cable, and controllers.
If you're looking to get a model 1 Mega Drive, chances are it's a late model 1 with TMSS. If you score an early model 1 Mega Drive without TMSS, congratulations. It's the superior model 1 to own just like you would with a Sega Genesis.
