I knew I would get this game someday. Even if I don't have a japanese Playstation to play it on it's worth having and hopefully someday I will have a system to play this on. If you ask me this is the definitive version of Dragon Quest IV. It was originally an NES game and it's been remade twice. This version, which never came out in the U.S. and a Nintendo DS version which did make it to the U.S. I do have the DS version and it is also excellent with a nice little addition of extra animations for the enemies. The enemies are animated in this version but only when they attack. The graphics are on a larger scale in this version too as it is a console game and the DS is a portable version. The only other difference that I know of is the music being orchestrated in the PS1 version and the DS version, while not bad, isn't fully orchestrated. Since this is a Japanese game all the text is also in Japanese. This is a fairly text heavy game as well so newcomers beware. You will need to be able to read Japanese or have experience playing through this game already. I hope to be able to learn some Japanese and expand my vocabulary with this game. It's going to take some study skills and maybe a book or two on Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji symbols plus some understanding of sentence structure but this game is going to make that all much more fun. I'm looking forward to it. As for the story of this game, it's the same as Dragon Warrior 4 for the NES and Dragon Quest 4 for the DS. There are five chapters and a bonus chapter for the U.S. Dragon Quest installments. Each chapter has you playing a role of a character or band of characters as they set out on individual quests only to unite in the fifth chapter with the main hero of the story. I wouldn't want to give away the entire plot though as the unfolding of it is part of the entertainment. It's a very fun and unique RPG that I would highly recommend to any RPG fan.
