Excellent Rhythm Game
Excellent rhythm game for the DS (also playable on the 3DS). You play the role of rival cheerleading squads in a Japanese city, tapping/dragging/spinning icons on the touch screeen to the music so as to inspire people/help them with a problem. Gameplay takes place on the bottom screen (where the game prompts appear and the cheer squad dances in the background), while the top screen shows a manga-style animated scene that evolves based on whether you're doing well (or not!). Most of the scenarios are on the humorous side (especially when you do poorly). The soundtrack is mostly J-Pop.
There are around 20 levels to play and 4 difficulty levels, so plenty of replay value here. The harder songs are quite challenging on the two highest difficulty levels.
However, if you haven't played this game's predecessor (Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!), that one was a bit better, both on the soundtrack and the story fronts, so consider getting that one first instead. If you don't like J-Pop but are curious about the gameplay, you could track down a copy of Elite Beat agents instead. Same mechanics/engine, but with an eclectic Western soundtrack instead.

Excellent packaging conditions and excellent service!
The game is fully functional and the way it was packaged assured me that the game and case would be kept from being damaged.

The first thing you should understand about this game is that it is entirely written and voiced in Japanese. However, this is not nearly as much of a barrier to Western gamers as it might normally be. Ouendan 2 is part of a trilogy of DS rhythm games that includes the first Ouendan, and the Americanized version, Elite Beat Agents. Since you're reading this review in English, I'm going to assume you understand it better than Japanese. Ouendan 2 will be easiest to play if you've already played Elite Beat Agents, as the two games have virtually identical menu systems and playstyles. After about 5 minutes of wandering around, I was able to find my way around the menus easily, without knowing a word of Japanese.
Ouendan is a rhythm game which revolves around tapping, sliding and drawing circles with the stylus in a timely fashion to the tune of various pop songs, as you help a team of cheerleaders dance their way through a variety of silly stories. The gameplay is tight and responsive, with four different difficulty settings that help the game's 16 levels stay enjoyable for a long time. The stories are told in an over-the-top comic-book style that captures the absurdity of the game's premise brilliantly. Even the voice acting for the cheerleaders and other characters is suitably silly, and excellently done by DS standards.
Since this is the last game in the trilogy, it also has the most polished interface, as it has benefited from the mistakes of the previous two games. The change that I enjoyed most as an Elite Beat Agents veteran was the ability to skip both the opening and closing cutscenes during songs. It saves a good 15 or 20 seconds at the end of a level, and keeps things from getting stale. The system of saving your replays is also better-designed this time around.
The only minor issue I had with this game was that some of the stories are built around concepts that I, as a Westerner, couldn't pick up on right away. (For example, a Japanese folk hero has to come out of retirement and fight the evil demons he fought as a youth.) Probably 3 or 4 of the stories were confusing to me until I looked them up online. This is an easy fix, though, and not something I can hold against the game in all fairness since it was never localized for Western audiences in the first place.
In closing, if you enjoyed Elite Beat Agents and are looking for more of the same, Ouendan 2 is a fantastically good time. The gameplay and production values are just as good, the menus and interfaces are updated, and the barriers to entry for non-Japanese speakers are minimal. (Also, the game can be played on American DS and 3DS systems--no problem).

More Osu!
If you liked Elite Beat Agents and you want to have more osu, then this is for you. It's the same gameplay we know and love with a whole new list of songs, japanece songs that is, so most likely all the songs will be uknown to you, but it's music all the same. All new characters and little cute stories, I can't read'em but it's still comprihenceble for the most part.
