【デザイン】パッケージのデザインからして気合が入ってますふたを開けると、NUDE EX monitorの文字が艶消しの中ブタから浮き上がりますそれを開けると、半透明の仕切りブタのなかに１０種類の色とりどりのイアビースが目に入ります本体のデザインは有機体のような、高級感あふれる出来ですジャックのデザインもウォークマンをポケットに入れて使うのに最適なデザインでジャックにさすと直角にコードが位置しますコードの質感も、毎日使うものなので気になるものですが、若干太めで、絡みにくくなっています【高音の音質】若いころは低音が出ていれば、とりあえず満足というか低音の出ないものはダメという感じでしたが40代後半に入って、高音が聞き取りにくくなってきたのか最近は中音の細やかさが好みになってきていて今まで使っていた、ゼンハイザーのＩＥ８の音がぽわーんという感じに聞こえてきていました今回、EX1000を初めて聞いてみてまず思ったのが私はウォークマンのAとXシリーズで聞いてますがイコライザーの設定を見直さないといけないという感じでした低音を最大まで、高音を最低まで設定して中音は真ん中にしてクリアベースを3に設定すると、いい感じになってきましたおもに、クラッシックのチェロでエージングをして10日目ですまだ、音は少しずつ落ち着いてきている途中という感じですが一週間以上ほぼずっと鳴らしていて起きているときは、JPOPなども聞いたりしていますがもともとの高音も耳に刺さるというよりかさかさした感じだったのがまろやかになってきた感じがします【中音の音質】この機種で特筆に値するのは中音だと思いますピアノ曲の独奏を今までのIE8ではヘッドホンではこれぐらいが限界かなとあきらめるような感じで聞いていましたがEX1000で同じ曲を聞いてみるとピアノのタッチの微妙な変化やクレッシェンドからピアニッシモまでくっきりと描ききっているのは素晴らしいですボーカルというか声楽もみずみずしくて嫌みがなく、まるで目の前で歌っているようです【低音の音質】IE8と比べると、引き締まったタイトな低域の響きですただし、IE8を聞くときはプリセットイコライザーをフラットにしていますオーケストラのコントラバスの唸るような重低音も特にピアニッシモでこんなバスのパッセージが鳴っていたのかと再発見したりしますやはりティンパニーや大太鼓の爆発するような低音が輪郭も鮮やかに鳴ってくれますなお、同梱の短いコードに付け替えると、あっというほど音が引き締まり解像感が上がり音全体の重心が下がります胸ポケットに入れて使うかネックストラップになりますが、おすすめです【フィット感】ハイブリッドイアピースのサイズが沢山あるので微妙な付け具合も、音質にも関わる部分でありいろいろ試しているところですシュアがけのスタイルで耳の後ろの部分にはテクノロートというプラスチックの形状記憶版のようなハンガーがついており素晴らしい装着感です【外音遮断性】ノイズアイソレーションイアビースも、同梱されていますがあまり効果がないようですそれよりも七種類のハイブリットイアビースから選び音質を追及したほうがいいかと思います【音漏れ防止】最初のほうで書いたように、高音を抑えて聞いているしシャカシャカ音漏れしそうな曲は聞かないしあまり持っていませんので、正直よくわからないですがよほどの大きな音を聞かなければ大丈夫かと思います【携帯性】これは、考え方によってはいいと思います持ち歩くときにあれっというほどの大きなケースを持ち歩くということになりますがこの小さなサイズで、高音質を実現していることを考えると大きなオーバーヘッドを持ち歩くのに比べれば全然いいということになると思います【満足度】とにかく凄い音ですソニーのウォークマンにつないで聴くにはこれほど音質のいいヘッドフォンはないと思います音楽が生き生きしてきて、何時までも聞いていたくなるそんな、ピュアオーディオの一品という感じですやっぱりMade in Japanはいいですね

These come in a decent size box. Not as big or as heavy as when I got my Shures. The EX1000 oozes quality and the magnesium makes it feel premium. Inside with the EX1000, comes with an extra cable, and 7 hybrid tips and 3 hybrid eartips that have foam inside them. The case is pretty big and is of high quality. A bit big for portable use for me, but I'm not intending to use these on the go.
Like when I got my XB90EX a few years ago, the fit was a bit awkward. The fit with these was twice as bad. Luckily my ear canals are the same size and they're usually not difficult when it comes to finding a tip that fits. The ML (Medium-Large) tips fit me almost perfectly. Durability seems legit. After some time, I may report back and give my thoughts on that. At first glance, these look amazing. Like I said before, the magnesium alloy looks amazing and the housing feels cold to the touch. The detachable cables have screws on them to improve connection and durability. I wish their newer products (H3, A3, Z5) could have used this for their detachable cables.
So as I said, this was just an experiment. I have heard from other people how these would sound, but I wasn't sure how they would sound to me. As soon as I pressed play, I was astounded at how big the sound felt. The soundstage was massive. The bass had excellent control. The sub-bass has quick bass decay, and also the mid-bass can deliver some punch when needed. In short, I think this produces the best bass in any IEM I've ever heard. Since this is a borderline neutral IEM, the mids didn't shine over the bass. The mids had their place. The lowermids were good, but toward the higher mids and lower treble was a peak that sounded kind of harsh to my ears. Overall the treble is so and so. However, details and clarity are also some of the best I've heard. Vocals are ever so slightly pushed back to give the soundstage a larger feel.
The IE800 is very similar to the EX1000 in terms of sound. I said that when I got the IE800 that it was the "Best Sounding Earphone." Even though the EX1000 comes very close to taking the throne, the treble peak is too much for me to place it above the IE800. In the IE800, the mid-bass has some more weight to it, the treble is not as tiring, and the soundstage is neck and neck with the EX1000 in most music. The EX1000 is more for serious listening or if I'm listening to acoustic/classical pieces. The other day, when I listen to "The Four Seasons" by Vivaldi, I get so immersed listening with the EX1000 because everything can be heard so clearly. Nothing sounds fake and nothing sounds covered in any way. On the flip side, when I'm jamming to some 80's Rock, R&B, and other stuff, which I do more often, I pull out the IE800 and start smiling from ear to ear when I start hearing drums and electric guitar.
I've heard people say the size of the driver correlates to the sound. After hearing this, I think I believe it. The 16 mm drivers are surely pushing a lot of air through the earphones. Regarding the overall product, I give this 4 stars for the good being sound quality for its price and the not so good being the fit and the treble peak. If you can get passed the fit, you've got best-in-class bass and soundstage. It definitely needs an amp. I'm currently using the Oppo HA-2SE and it sounds much, much improved than without it. If you are someone who plans on just using these with your iPhone listening to 128 or 256 kb/s off of iTunes, you won't get what you paid for. The RHA MA750i would be a good alternative for significantly less money ($129.95 or less) and it doesn't need an amp. If you need a budget pair of earphones that sound good, the Symphonized NRG premium series (1.0, 2.0, or 3.0) are a good buy and one of the best values out there. If you are an audiophile or audio enthusiast, this would be a wonderful add to any collection out there. This product is like fine wine. It becomes more extraordinary as each year passes by. Truly a masterpiece. Get it while you can!
*Update (3/12/18)*: It's been almost a year since posted this review. Initially I wasn't going to post an update since I've been so busy with school, work, and other things. My opinions have changed some, which is why I had to come back and make this. Over this past year, I would use the IE800 almost every time over the EX1000. A couple months after I got the EX1000, I decided to change my medium/large hybrid tips because the fit was just that bad. I changed it to a brand called Spinfit tips (which are shown in the pictures). I got the large size because the brand makes their tips a little bit smaller than normal. The design of these tips really help with the fit and comfort. Over time I began to notice that the treble peak I really hated was almost non-existent. After I found that out, I began to heavily test these side by side with the IE800. The more I listened, the more I fell for the EX1000. I would listen to a track with the EX1000 and I forget to change to the IE800 because I was so immersed in my music. Changing the tips has made the sound much better. The EX1000 now sound more natural than the IE800 and the bass sounds so perfect. Now when I change back to the IE800, the treble sounds sort of crunchy and the bass sounds a little too boomy. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am absolutely positive that I can now say the Sony MDR EX1000 is the best sounding earphone I've ever heard, taking the title away from the IE800. Now since I did make this decision, I didn't know whether I should change my rating of my review. I decided to leave it at 4 stars because it's not perfect. 1) you need an amp to listen to these, 2) the fit is still not good, but not bad, 3) the comfort got better, but still not as comfortable as the IE800, and 4) the strain relief on the 3.5 mm jack doesn't look too durable if tugged on wrong once or twice. Luckily I don't really have to worry about durability because these never leave my house, but it's still something to watch for. Just a reminder, these are discontinued, so get a pair before they run out. I might even purchase another one if these break any time soon.
