In this book you will learn over 30 types of chinese exercise routines that are mostly thousands of years old. The art work is beautiful and the instructions clear.
But this book is not for novices. You should have a working knowldege of qi gong, brocade exercises, taoist yogay etc. All in all, a great, inspirational and useful read. However it always best to have an experienced teacher hopefully from asia with a couple of decaeds experience because you can raise your chi too quickly and create real problems for yourself that are not easily resolved.

Chi gung is a 3,000-year-old physical discipline that practitioners consider to be more essential to health than cardiovascular exercise. The ancient system, called the "internal martial arts," emphasizes improving the life force flow, chi, by opening the body's energy centers. These simple exercises derive their power from repetition. They are illustrated in more than 300 watercolors based on ancient Chinese scrolls and cave paintings.

WOW!! It is worth it for the ART WORK! A grand little book. This is one that I had seen in an ad years ago, and for which I searched for several years. The only thing that I could remember was the picture on the front cover. As usual, Amazon came through!

I have been into physical fitness (numerous different kinds of exercise programs) and the martial arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-Do, Tai Chi, Qigong, and Reiki) for more than 60 years. I have collected 100s of books about these combat and healing systems over the years. I recently purchased this interesting and unique 212 page soft cover book (Ancient way to keep fit: compiled by Zong Wu . Li May with paintings by Zuang Ke Ren) for a bargain price on Amazon.
This intriguing book covers the internal martial arts from ancient China. The exercises and movements in this full color text explain Taoist exercises such as Chi Gung (also known as Qigong) Taoist Yoga, Yijinjing, and self-massage exercises. Since I have been teaching Tai Chi, Qigong and Yoga for many years I was actually familiar with many of the exercises shown in this text. The illustrations are drawn beautifully making it an east text to understand the movements. The exercises shown in this volume come from numerous ancient Chinese exercise systems related to the philosophy of Taoism.
Some of the many topics covered include the following: Chi Songzi’s physical and breathing exercises, Ling Jianzi’s physical and breathing exercises in six forms, Penk Zu’s physical and breathing exercises, the five animal play, self-massage, Pu Qianguan’s massage for longevity, massage eyes and ears, the seven-star standing exercises, exercises in eight steps, Brocade exercises in eight forms, eleven sitting positions, exercises for strengthening internal organs, six-sound exercise for health and longevity, the frog exercises and numerous other exercise programs.
If you are into the Chinese martial and healing arts this is a book you should have in your personal library. This book may also be considered a classic because the material is taken from ancient Chinese texts.
Rating: 4 Stars Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Chair/Seated Tai Chi, Qigong, and Yoga stretching exercises for seniors and the physically challenged).

Intresting for the history it tells

The title is misleading. It's not exercises or even much qigong. It's mostly sitting or laying down with different thoughts to have and/or massages to do. Other than 7 star qigong, which I already knew, I didn't see anything in this book that I would practice.

The tone and format of this book gives so much respect to these ancient and very important exercises. My applause to Zong Wu for bringing the Ancients to life in such a direct manner.
