This is an excellent book for people new to chess. It contains a comprehensive introduction to all facets of the game, in a format which is simple to follow, and easy to remember. Many other chess books can be very daunting to read, and bogged down with too much information, whereas this book is concise, and the content easily absorbed and retained.

I highly recommend both this book, and also Mato Jelic's yuotube channel.
Ignore the kindle reviews and buy the physical book. You won't be disappointed.

I think Mato is a little above 2000 in terms of his chess rating. But the reason why I bought this book is because I have been following his channel and videos on youtube and there was never a dull moment. Mato is very instructive and his awesome sense of humor makes his videos more than entertaining. I have seen Mato slowly growing from a 1500 to a 2000+ player and that gave me some hopes of one day becoming that good.

I considered myself an average player and only recently did I start picking chess up as a hobby. After watching Mato's videos I learnt quite a bit. Every other day there will be a new video. When I found that he wrote a book, I did not hesitate to purchase it.

Now, about the book itself. I read only the first 20 pages but i can already appreciate the content. It definitely feels like Mato talking. I didn't find it hard to follow. Though for an average player like me, the notations will take a bit to get used to but the mental challenge is welcomed. This is thin book too. What would have been nice is if there was a hard cover version. If there was more pages, that would have been super amazing! But I really cant complain. Diagrams are very helpful and the puzzles at the end add a nice touch to the overall content.

This book is a great package for anyone who wishes to begin learning chess.
It teaches you everything: how to move each piece, how to read chess notations so that you will know how to read other chess reference books, it covers some popular chess openings and gives you some exercises.

Perfect as a gift for your friends, but if you already know the basics of chess, you may want to pass on this one.
