If you stuck for a birthday present or Christmas gift, this will not disappoint, so brilliant would recommend to anyone that remembers watching Les Dawson.
Features Olivia Newton-John in 1974/5 (just before she quit the UK for USA) on DVD no.1 participating in some comedy sketches and singing some solo and duets w/LD.
Full list of guests on the inside of the DVD card inlay with many other fine British actors.
Rest of material is LD with support singers and dancers with Roy Barrowclough doing the (in)famous Sissy and Ena sketches - 2 old gossipy old woman from up north of England discussing women's problems and so on.
Les Dawson was never off TV when I was a kid. His 'Sez Les' shows in the 70's ran for many years and included several 'Specials'. Many of them are included here (although NOT the 1973 Xmas show which is the one I was hoping to find!) The jokes and sketches range from the not surprisingly dated to the oddly inventive - Dawson's skilled use of language and physicality were his trademarks...along with his atrocious piano playing. This 3 CD set has hours of fun to wander and wallow through and each episode features music from many of the big names of the time - Olivia Newton John, Lulu, Lynsey de Paul, 3 Degrees, Nolans, Dana (Les liked the ladies!) - all joining in with sketches as well as giving us a song. Veteran comedy actors are also on hand and even John Cleese makes an early Basil Fawlty appearance! Well worth checking out.
