.. to be so good.
I really thought it would be waves and only waves, but no. It's almost like a mini-movie. (Yes, it's a little short, I give this to you)
The narrator takes us to a trip to Tahiti. There are other activities, views of under the sea, coral reefs, kids playing, ritual dances, etc...
I was agreeably surprised. I loved it, recommended 100%.
The surfing is the icing on the cake, of course with Kelly Slater, what to expect, he?

Wow, all that is needed to be said. But I shall say more. Simply breath taking 3D and at some parts I found myself ducking out of the way of the oncoming surf board I kid you not. Maybe I should not have been sitting so close to the big screen.
All kidding aside the views are breathtaking. The underwater shots were amazing. There were however some scenes where people were sitting so close to the screen that when trying to look at the background it made my eyes crossed some what. It could have been the weird multicolored surf board directly behind them in the distance that caused the most strain. It has to be one of the better things I seen in 3D yet, and for less than 12 dollars is hard to beat. There was a point where my friends 6 year old was trying to catch the fish that seemed to be floating just out of his arm reach. The detail was so apparent for the canoe scenes where you can visualize the depths of the canoe and the man rowing it. After watching this, if i could pack up and visit Tahiti tomorrow I would. I simply had no idea of the beauty. There was way to much eye candy to remain focused at just any one thing on the screen making this 3D movie worthy of watching a few times because it is impossible to catch all the detail in just one sitting.

One of the most AMAZING 3D documentaries to test/show off your 3D setup! Much more than just surf!

I have been buying _all_ the best 3D Blu-ray discs available on the market, since I bought the _amazing_ LG passive 3D monitor D2342p
LG D2342P-PN 23 inch Widescreen 3D LED Monitor
, last year. (Which - in my opinion and by the way - is one of the best 3D screens available, as regards cost/performance ratio, since it allows for very cheap, headache-free, ultra-bright and colourful 3D vision of movies and 3D contents, if you have a good 3D-ready PC, by using the exact same technology used in theaters, although with slightly different passive glasses, having 45-degree rotated polarized filters compared to the Real D ones used in theaters...)
Unfortunately, apart from the usually great CGI animated movies, with or without Blue Giant Elves in them, I noticed a real lack of _real world_ 3D movies, which means _not converted/fake 3D_ movies (as unfortunately many current 3D non-CGI movies are, especially those released in the last quarter of 2011. You might want to check on the Web about "fake 3D movies", by the way, if you never heard about this: you will find a lot of bad surprises about that...)
Therefore, I also bought all the best/most popular 3D documentaries I could find, most of which did not impress me much, unfortunately: as a matter of fact, many of them were shot several years ago, with cumbersome, heavy 3D IMAX cameras, which had serious limitations regarding the shooting locations and techniques; luckily, more recent "3D camera rigs" have become so light, powerful and portable, that today it has become quite easy to shoot VERY impressive footage in almost _any_ environment with much less effort and lower budgets...
So, I almost stumbled upon this title by chance, and even if I was never interested in surfing, I thought it might be a good subject to test the capabilities of my 3D screen; as a matter of fact, the sea always offers great opportunities for shooting impressive 3D footage (long depths of field, amazing colours when there is good lighting, fast movements, etc.), and since this movie was produced recently (2009) and it had a really affordable price, I decided to give it a try, even if I did not expect much... I was definitely in for a big surprise! This turned out to be probably THE best 3D "real world" footage I have _ever_ seen so far! (Apart from the wonderful movie The Hole by the great Joe Dante The Hole (Blu-ray 3D) , probably...)
First things first: if you are thinking this documentary is just all about surfing, think again. Surfing, and following the exciting, amazing training and performance of a world surfing champion and his friends, are actually almost excuses to shoot a _wonderful_ documentary about _Tahiti_ and its lush nature, its gorgeous coral reef, the origin and history of the Polynesian islands, and even a little science (with some very good and interesting CGI sequences).
Actually, in my opinion this documentary could easily be used as a VERY convincing 3D travelogue to sell costly Tahiti vacations to anybody who has never been there... ;-)
You will find: perfect aerial shots of green-covered volcanic mountains; amazing, low depth undersea coral reef and sea bottom sequences, which allow for perfect illumination and STUNNING colors (very difficult to obtain in 3D and MUCH better, than those appearing - for instance - in a much more famous, older 3D IMAX "wonderland" documentary, which used mostly ambient lighting, making everything look plain and boring blue-green...); nice group scenes on the beach at sunset/night (even including the typical "tourist show" of fire jugglers), with multiple subjects - always cleverly shot on different depth planes - giving an incredible "presence effect" that makes you feel _right there_; professional, constantly moving CGI animation, to explain in a simple but detailed and imaginative way the creation of volcanic islands, the effect of the Moon on tidal waves, etc.; and - of course - _breathtaking_ in-water surfing shots, taken with multiple cameras held by fearless camera operators _inside_ the waves, _under_ the waves and basically in _any_ location (you can even spot some of them in the water), literally _inches_ away from being hit by high-speed surfing boards!
All of these scenes are shot so perfectly, that they show almost non-existent crosstalk - most of the times - between left and right images, at least on my passive and properly calibrated screen, which makes the documentary even more satisfying and easy on the eyes.
I have a 100% rate of people which _hated or did not care at all about 3D_ remaining speechless and amazed beyond belief while watching just _a few_ scenes from this documentary, such as the incredible training of people carrying rocks underwater while "running" on the sea bottom (!), and you might easily convince any "anti-3D" people into buying a 3D screen with this documentary, believe me... If all 3D movies were shot like this one, at least as regards the 3D shooting techniques and the choice of subjects/scenes, I think 3D sales would really go through the roof...
Funny thing is: I still do not care at all about surfing, and I am not interested in the least abouth this sport! And I would keep watching this a thousand times anyway! Too bad it is way too short, approx. 40 minutes, as usual with these documentaries. All good (3D) things come to an (early) end, apparently!
So, if you are looking for a perfect 3D test-disk for your setup, or if you really want to show off your 3D screen, do NOT miss this title, you will not regret it: there is definitely something for _everybody_, even kids!
